The Interschools General Knowledge Quiz Competition is a school-based quiz competition that involves up to 45 primary schools drawn largely from across the Cape Peninsula. Ideally, the IGK Quiz seeks to encourage the growth and development of general knowledge as an important life skill among primary school learners. The spin-off is for learners is that they are given the opportunity at school level to actively engage in the world around them through critical discussion and debate. The IGK questions set are generally of relevance to their lives and experiences and its themes reflect the broader social, cultural and political diversity that characterizes our South African society. Furthermore, learners are also required to link these specific issues/concerns to global issues so that they begin to understand the concept of the “global village”. |
